Living Arrangements

jeudecartesIn order to keep up appearances as human, the four of them keep jobs/go to school. Heart and Spade often pose as undergrads and take part-time jobs here and there. Club has always been fascinated by human law and often poses as a law school student and keeps an internship with a law firm of some sort. Criminal law is his favorite, but over the years he’s studied a variety of fields. Diamond, with his ability to find precious metal, often ‘inherits’ his own money and is a professional investor and works from home. Sometimes Diamond takes a job as a bartender if he gets really bored.
Spade fences competitively and he’s very good at it, but he has to lose on purpose, usually getting to the quarterfinals and coming in third or fourth. Usually. Sometimes he still wins despite trying to lose (or so he claims, often he forgets he was trying to lose). In the past, he was often a knight.
They own a three-story brownstone, bought with Diamond's 'inheritance.'
Basement – mostly used for storage. If in a fantasy setting this is where Diamond keeps his gold and Spade keeps armor and swords he doesn’t want to get rid of; Spade is a bit of a pack rat. Also the washer and drier is down there.
First Floor – Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, Powder Room. The kitchen is ultra-modern with top of the line equipment and a breakfast bar, used by all four of them. Being centuries old, they’re all competent in the kitchen, with Diamond making the most use of it. Heart is actually the best when it comes to cooking, but he also makes the biggest messes and tends to ‘forget’ to clean up after himself which leads to him being banned from the kitchen for a few days until Spade or Club (the ones who clean up after him) forgive him. Club cooks the least, and Spade gets lazy when it comes to cooking, and most of the meals he makes are the pop into the oven type of meals. The Living Room is Diamond’s domain. Large couch, two chairs, an entertainment center only Diamond is allowed to tinker with beyond turning it on and changing the channel, a cabinet full of expensive liquor. The dining room is nice but often abandoned in favor of eating in front of the television.
Second Floor – Family Room, Spade’s room, Heart’s room, secondary bathroom. Just because they’re all together doesn’t mean they don’t need some time away from each other. The Family Room is technically the biggest bedroom and made up with a very large bed, neutral colors, and pictures of all four of them on vacations. Usually, there are at least two people sleeping in it, though more often than not, all four go to bed together.
Heart’s Room is very cute. It's filled with stuffed animals and musical instruments. When Heart moved in, he took buckets of paint, mostly red, but also yellow, black, white, and blue, and flung it around. Spade’s is very spartan. He has an entertainment system that’s not as high tech as the one in the living room and plays a lot of video games on it, mostly MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV and Overwatch. It has trophies from competitions he won and posters of athletes he admires. The bathroom on this floor has a shower in it. Everyone’s allowed to play video games, even if he’s sleeping.
Third Floor – Master Bath, Club’s Room, Diamond’s Room. Club claimed the master bedroom for himself and turned half of it into an office/study that Heart invades fairly often to read. Spade and Diamond sometimes read there too, but Diamond has a tablet he prefers to use over books and Spade isn’t as interested in reading as the rest. Diamond’s room, like Spade’s, is pretty spartan but has all the toys and equipment they sometimes use. It’s affectionally called the ‘Sex Dungeon’ by Spade and Heart, to which Diamond threatens to take them to his room and show them how much of dungeon it is (they go willingly).
The master bath is very nice, with a bath that can fit all four of them comfortably, and an additional person or two for bath time fun.
